Lee Jones kick-started his season last weekend with a fine performance in the 72-hole Trubshaw Cup played over two days at Tenby and Ashburnham Golf Clubs. Being a previous winner of the event and helped by the fact he 'liked' the two courses, Lee was really looking forward to getting stuck in.
With rounds of 72 & 74 on day one at Tenby, it was a solid enough start leaving him tied for 4th spot and just five shots back from Mitchell Reid from Celtic Manor. Day two started with another solid round of 71 from Lee who was hoping for a few shots lower as he was still trailing by a couple going into the final round. Well, it was business as usual as another rock-steady round of 72 gave him a four-round total of 289 and the win by five shots.
Congratulations Lee, nice to see you back on form and another title to your name.
In case you haven't heard, this week sees Conwy host The Welsh Open Ladies Strokeplay Championship. Played over three days from Friday to Sunday, the event attracts players from throughout the UK and across Europe with a total of 88 competitors taking part. With nearly half the field (36) having a handicap of +1 or better, there should be plenty of good scoring and some talented players gracing the links, some of whom will go onto to greater things in the professional game, just like our very own Amy Boulden who won this event back in 2013. 8am is the start time for the first two days with the last players teeing off at 1:20pm. There will be a cut after 36 holes with the top 45 players and ties going through to the final day's play. It's FREE to come and watch if you can, or you can follow the live scoring here.
