There was great news for George, Gareth, myself and Conwy Golf Club last week as both George and Gareth lost their amateur status as they were accepted onto the PGA Training Programme designed exclusively to meet the needs of the golf industry and work towards becoming a PGA Qualified Golf Professional.
Now incorporating a Foundation Degree in professional golf in conjunction with the University of Birmingham, the programme is based around various modules relevant to a career in golf. It mixes theory and practice and is assessed by assignments and examinations in each of the three years of study and in addition to the assignments and exams, assistants attend a one-week residential course at the National Training Academy at The Belfry. Key subject areas will include Golf Coaching, Equipment Technology, Sports Science, Business Management, Career and Personal Development, and the Rules of Golf.
Both George and Gareth are excited to get started with their studies and are looking forward to their new career ahead of them. I'm sure you will all as I have, wish them the best of luck.
As the temperatures have dropped this week, now is the perfect time to introduce some autumn/winter wear into your wardrobe. We've got base layers, windtops, fleece-lined zip-neck tops and club crested quarter-zip sweaters. We've also taken delivery of soft shell sleeved and sleeveless tops from the likes of Galvin Green, FootJoy, Puma and Glenmuir. There's also a nice selection of winter hats as well as some new in stock club crested waterproof bucket hats. Get yourself ready for the winter season and keep playing whatever the weather.
We're still running our great offer on golf balls from Titleist, Srixon and Callaway with four sleeves for the price of three on NXT Tour & Tour S, Velocity, Supersoft, AD333 and Soft Feel.
We've also got some great deals on brand new and very good condition second hand sets of irons:
Brand new Titleist AP1 irons (5-SW + GW) now only £450 > save over £250 on RRP
Brand new Titleist AP2 irons (4-PW) down to only £499
Second hand Titleist AP2 irons (3-PW) £399 > that's nearly half the price of a new set
Many 2014 drivers, fairways and hybrids reduced from PING, Titleist, Callaway and Cobra
Last week saw the Final Eclectic of the season play out with a number of players making a dash for the line to make it into the prizes. Despite some very varied weather at the start of the season we managed to get 12 rounds in giving us a total prize fund of £617. I must thank Gerry and Gary for their contribution in compiling the results each time, made even harder by the inadequate people at Club 2000 whose sometimes less-than-perfect software that the club have to rely on for the competition results each week. Congratulations to all prize winners who will be presented with their voucher at the end of season Trophy Presentation evening on the 30th October.
Aaron Eardley and Steven Evans both had gross 60s to take the Gross Prize and £67.50 each. Aaron's performances also earned him top spot in Division One with a nett 54, cashing another £67.50 to his prize fund. Neil Haggas finished in second on 55 (£52.50), two ahead of Stephen Eardley, David Gaucas and Tim Cooper who took home £40.50 each. John Gibbons led the way in Division Two with a 51 (£67.50), one ahead of Alan Pope in second (£52.50). Third place was shared between David Carr, Eryl Rowlands and George Renshaw on 53 (£40.50 each).
Well done to all of this year's winners.
