Well, as of the 1st of November, another 12 months has come and gone for me in the role of Club Professional and if the 1st year flew by, this one seems to have gone by even faster. I would like to thank the Club and the members for their support and loyalty along with Gareth and George for their commitment and professionalism.
To be at such a great Club that has a healthy number of playing members and visitors week in week out, is so important in the continuing success of the Professional Shop and its ability to provide the range of products, services, and levels of staff. I feel the shop has come a long way in just two years and with both Gareth and George embarking on the 3-year PGA Foundation Degree, this can only benefit the Club and the shop in the future. Here's looking forward to 2016.
Professional's Day for the juniors took place last Thursday, slightly later in the season than planned but thankfully the weather read the script and tuned out better than it had earlier in the year. Playing a mix of Medal & Stableford over 16 holes, which did cause the juniors a bit of a head scratch when working out their scores, it was one of the season's most prolific winners, Cameron Kewley, who took top spot. Sam Hatton had to settle for runner-up with Ross Bebbington in third and Charley Simpson taking fourth spot. Congratulations to all prize winners and thanks to all the competitors for turning up to compete, also, thanks to Junior Organiser John Sneyd for his time in organising the event and helping out on the day.
The first Pro Social competition of the winter season got underway on Saturday with a healthy turnout of 116 competitors. After a busy evening the night before picking up numerous prizes and trophies at the end of season Trophy Presentation evening, Division One winner Cameron Kewley proved he was still on form from Thursday's Junior Professional's Day scoring an impressive 41 points. Hot on his heels just one point back was Jurek Brown followed by Josh Thomas on 39. Some familiar names appeared on the results in Division Two with Eryl Rowlands on 40 points, pushing Robert Carter and Robert Owens into second and third respectively on the same score.
It was another emphatic victory for the Men's Scratch Team at the weekend with a 5-0 win against Nefyn. The team made up of Evan Griffith, Lee Jones, Jordan Roberts, Steven Evans and Jeff Evans chalked up their second win out of two to get their season off to a great start.
Sunday saw the 2016 captains drive into their year of office on a very warm and sunny November day. The weather certainly helped in bringing out an audience to see them hit their tee shots and, apart from a little bit of anxiety, there was no excuse for missing the fairway! After running the competitions office for a number of years, the newly appointed captain, Gerry Grimes, is looking forward to a less time consuming role, well for 12 months at least. Denise Bithell is very much looking forward to her new role as lady captain and will have no problem carrying the mantle of her predecessor Janet Jones, and it was great to see Ross Bebbington appointed as 2016 junior captain. Having being a member of Conwy from a young age, Ross is one of a number of juniors who now have a single-figure handicap.
Best of luck next season with your new roles, I'm sure you will all do the Club proud.
